Role & Responsibilities
Make Official Rulings
Interpret game rules and card interactions when players disagree or are uncertain. Provide clear, authoritative decisions based on official rulings and Goat Format conventions.
Clarify Mechanics
Explain priority, chain resolution, timing, and other complex game mechanics. Help players understand why certain interactions work the way they do.
Review Disputed Matches
Examine replays when players dispute match outcomes. Verify that games followed proper rules and identify any misplays or illegal actions.
Educate the Community
Share knowledge about rulings, create educational content, and help players improve their understanding of Goat Format rules and interactions.
When Judges Are Needed
During Live Matches
When players encounter a situation they cannot resolve on their own—complex chains, priority questions, timing conflicts, or card interaction uncertainties—they can call a judge for an official ruling.
Match Disputes
If players disagree about what happened in a match or believe illegal actions occurred, a judge can review the replay and make a final determination on the outcome.
General Questions
Players can ask judges about rulings outside of matches to better understand mechanics, prepare for tournaments, or clarify deck-building legality.
