⚙️How Ladder Works

Ladder matchmaking is fully automated from queue to rating update:

1️⃣

Join Queue

Use /lq_join with your YDKE deck string. Once in queue, the bot automatically searches for opponents near your rating.

2️⃣

Automatic Pairing

When a suitable opponent is found, both players are notified. After 10 minutes in queue, the bot sends a DM confirmation to check if you're still active.

3️⃣

Play Your Match

Play a best-of-3 match with side decking on EDOPro, Dueling Book, or Master Duel (goat mod). Follow replay requirements.

4️⃣

Report Result

After the match, both players use /lq_loss to report their loss and submit a replay link. The system verifies consistency before confirming the result.

5️⃣

Rating Update

Both players' ratings are adjusted based on the Elo system. Winners gain rating points; losers lose points. The amount depends on the rating difference between the players and the match score. Both global and season ratings are updated simultaneously.

Queue System & Protection

To ensure fair matchmaking and prevent queue abuse, Ladder uses intelligent protection systems:

✅ Confirmation System

If you've been waiting in queue for more than 10 minutes, the bot will send you a DM confirmation to check if you're still available. This prevents inactive players from clogging the queue.

  • Click the confirmation button in the DM to stay in queue
  • Ignore the DM and you'll be auto-removed after a second confirmation request
  • You can rejoin anytime with /join

🚫 Anti-Rematch System

To maintain matchmaking variety, you cannot face the same opponent more than twice consecutively. After playing the same person twice in a row, the system will skip them in matchmaking until you play someone else.

Example: If you play vs. Player A, then vs. Player A again, you must face Player B (or anyone else) before you can be paired with Player A a third time.

🔒 Pending Match Blocker

You cannot join the queue if you have an active/pending match. This ensures you complete your current match before starting a new one. Report your match result with /loss (if you lost) or wait for your opponent to report.

Ladder Fiesta Mode 🎉

Ladder Fiesta is an exclusive limited-time event (typically lasting 6-12 hours) where win-streak mechanics are activated on the Ladder queue. During a Fiesta, the first player to achieve 5 consecutive wins claims a unique prize announced at the start of the event!

 How to Win

  • 5 Wins in a Row: Win 5 consecutive Ladder matches during the Fiesta period
  • Unique Prize: Each Fiesta announces a special one-time prize (items, roles, recognition)
  • First Winner Takes All: The first player to hit 5 wins claims the prize immediately
  • No Special Queue: Use the same /join command—Fiesta runs on the normal Ladder queue
  • Limited Time: Fiesta events last 6-12 hours and are announced in Discord advance

⚡ Strategy Tips

Ladder Fiesta demands peak performance and smart deck choices:

  • Bring your absolute best deck—one loss breaks your streak!
  • Consider the meta: what are other grinders playing?
  • Play aggressively but carefully—5 wins is no easy feat
  • Watch for announcements: some Fiestas have special deck restrictions or bonuses

Pro Tip: Ladder Fiesta is one of the most prestigious achievements in Goat World. Claiming a Fiesta prize cements your status as an elite player. Mark your calendar when Fiestas are announced and bring your A-game!

Rating & Matchmaking

Ladder uses a dynamic Elo rating system with custom K-factors and match score bonuses. Your rating adjusts after each match based on:

  • Your Rating vs. Opponent Rating: Beating a higher-rated player gives more rating points; losing to them costs fewer points.
  • Provisional Period: New players (first 20 games) have larger rating swings until the system stabilizes their skill level.
  • Match Score: Sweeps (2-0 wins) earn a small bonus to reflect dominant performance.
  • Match History: Consistent performance leads to more stable ratings over time.

View your current Ladder rating on the Ladder Rankings Page to see where you rank among all players in the current season.

Note: For detailed information about rating calculations, K-factors, and provisional mechanics, see the How Rating Works wiki page.

Strategies & Tips

💡 How to Climb the Ladder

  • Build Consistent Bo3 Decks: Your main deck should be solid, and your 15-card sideboard should address common matchups (e.g., anti-trap cards vs. Goat Control, aggro counters vs. Chaos variants).
  • Rotate Your Decks: We promote deck rotation on Ladder—using the same main deck and sideboard repeatedly is not optimal strategy. Switching decks keeps opponents guessing and helps you adapt to the evolving meta.
  • Play During Peak Hours: More players online = faster matchmaking. Check Discord for active times in your region.
  • Report Losses Promptly: The sooner you report, the sooner the match result is confirmed and your rating updates. Don't let results sit unreported.
  • Track Your Progress: Monitor your rating on the Ladder Rankings and adjust your deck based on what you're facing.
  • Learn from Matches: Save replay URLs to review your games and identify mistakes or optimization opportunities.
  • Take Advantage of Fiesta Events: Ladder Fiesta periods are your chance to prove you're elite—hit that 5-win streak and claim a unique prize!

⚠️ Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Don't Queue with No Time: Make sure you have at least 30-60 minutes available to play your Bo3 match. Leaving matches incomplete hurts your reputation.
  • Don't Sideboard Randomly: Have a clear plan for what cards to side in/out against each archetype. Random siding weakens your win rate.
  • Don't Forget Replay URLs: Always save the Duelingbook replay link. You need it to report losses, and it's useful for learning.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if my opponent doesn't respond or show up?

Contact an admin in Discord with evidence (DMs, screenshots). Admins can manually resolve the match or issue a no-show loss to the inactive player. Repeated no-shows may result in penalties for the offending player.

Can I play the same person twice in a row?

Yes, you can face the same opponent up to two times consecutively. After that, the anti-rematch system will prevent you from being paired with them until you play someone else. This keeps matchmaking varied and prevents farming/collusion.

What happens if I leave the queue?

You can leave the queue anytime with /leave. There's no penalty for leaving before you're matched. However, once you're paired with an opponent, you're expected to complete the match or coordinate a reschedule.

How do I see my rating and rank?

Your current Ladder rating is visible on the Ladder Rankings Page, which shows all players sorted by seasonal rating. You can also track your global rating across all modes on the main rankings page.

What is Ladder Fiesta?

Ladder Fiesta is an elite limited-time event (typically 6-12 hours) where win-streak mechanics are activated. The first player to achieve 5 consecutive wins claims a unique prize announced at the start of the Fiesta. It's one of the most prestigious achievements in Goat World—bring your best deck and your A-game!

Can I use different decks for each match?

Yes! Each time you join the queue with /join, you submit a YDKE deck code. You can change decks between matches (after cooldown). However, once you're paired, you must use the deck you registered with for that specific match.
