What is Sit-n-Go?

Sit-n-Go (SNG) is a fast-paced mini-tournament format where exactly 4 players compete in a single-elimination bracket. Unlike scheduled tournaments, SNGs start automatically as soon as the 4th player joins—no waiting for registration windows or specific start times.

With a 500 GWCoins entry fee and a 1,500 GWCoins winner prize, SNGs offer quick tournament action with real stakes. Each match is Best of 3 (Bo3), and the bracket is single-elimination: win two matches (semifinal + final) and you're the champion!

🏆 Key Features

  • Auto-Start: Join the queue, wait for 3 more players, and the tournament begins instantly—no scheduling needed
  • 4-Player Bracket: Simple single-elimination format (2 semifinals + 1 final)
  • 500 GWCoins Entry: Entry fee deducted automatically when you join
  • 1,500 GWCoins Prize: Winner takes home 3x their entry fee
  • Bo3 Matches: Every match is best 2 out of 3 games with 15-card sideboards
  • Separate Rating: SNGs have their own rating system, independent from Ladder and Challenge
  • Discord Thread: Each SNG gets a dedicated Discord thread for bracket updates and coordination

How Sit-n-Go Works

📋 Step-by-Step Process

1
Join the Queue: Use /sng join with your YDKE deck code. You must have at least 500 GWCoins in your balance. Example: /sng join deck:ydke://...
2
Wait for Players (Status: OPEN): Your 500 GWCoins are reserved. You'll see how many players are in the queue. You can update your deck with another /sng join command or leave with /sng leave (refunds your GWCoins).
3
Tournament Starts (Status: STARTED): When the 4th player joins, the system instantly creates a Challonge bracket, shuffles participants for random seeding, and creates a Discord thread (e.g., "sng-a1b2c"). Entry fees are now locked—no refunds.
4
Play Semifinal Matches: Check the Discord thread for your opponent. Coordinate and play your Bo3 match on Duelingbook. The loser reports with /sng loss + replay URL.
5
Play the Final: The two semifinal winners face off in the championship match. Again, loser reports the result.
6
Winner Crowned: The champion receives 1,500 GWCoins and rating adjustments are applied to all participants based on their final placement.

Important: Once the tournament starts (STARTED status), you cannot leave or get a refund. Make sure you have time to complete both potential matches (semifinal + final).

Entry Fee & Rewards

💰 GWCoins Breakdown

Entry Fee (per player):500 GWCoins
Total Prize Pool (4 players):2,000 GWCoins
Winner Prize:1,500 GWCoins
Platform Fee:500 GWCoins (25%)

How Payment Works: When you use /sng join, the system checks your GWCoins balance. If you have at least 500 GWC, the entry fee is atomically deducted from your balance—the transaction is instant and cannot be reversed once the tournament starts.

⚠️ Refund Policy

  • Before Tournament Starts (OPEN): You can leave with /sng leave and receive a full refund of 500 GWCoins
  • After Tournament Starts (STARTED): No refunds. Entry fees are locked and contribute to the prize pool
  • No-Show Players: If a player doesn't show up for their match, admins may issue a default loss. Entry fees are not refunded for no-shows

Pro Tip: To check your GWCoins balance before joining, use the /balance command in Discord.

Deck Management

Like all Goat World competitive formats, SNGs require YDKE deck codes for registration. Your deck choice is critical—you'll use the same deck for both your semifinal and final (if you advance).

📝 Deck Rules

  • YDKE Format Required: Your deck code must be in YDKE format (e.g., ydke://...). Export from Duelingbook or other deck builders.
  • Updateable While OPEN: Before the tournament starts, you can change your deck by running /sng join again with a new deck code. Your slot stays reserved.
  • Locked After STARTED: Once the 4th player joins and the bracket is created, your deck is locked. You must use that exact deck for all matches.
  • 15-Card Sideboard: Bo3 format allows sideboards. Make sure your YDKE code includes your 15-card side deck.
  • Deck Type Auto-Detected: The system automatically classifies your deck archetype (e.g., Goat Control, Chaos, Zoo) for stats tracking.

Note: For deck building rules and the April 2005 card pool, see the Card Pool and Banlist wiki pages.

Discord Thread System

Every SNG gets its own dedicated Discord thread for communication and bracket updates. This keeps tournament coordination organized and prevents spam in main channels.

🧵 Thread Features

  • Unique Codes: Each SNG has a 5-character code (e.g., "a1b2c") generated using base36 encoding. Thread name example: "sng-a1b2c"
  • Auto-Created on Start: When the 4th player joins and the tournament begins, the bot instantly creates the thread and tags all 4 participants
  • Bracket Link: The thread includes a link to the Challonge bracket for real-time standings and pairing info
  • Match Coordination: Use the thread to communicate with your opponents, schedule matches, and share replay URLs
  • Auto-Locks When Complete: Once the final is reported and a winner is crowned, the thread auto-locks to preserve the tournament record

Why Threads? Threads keep SNG discussions self-contained. You won't miss important pairings, and admins can easily review completed tournaments. All participants are automatically added to the thread when it's created.

SNG Rating System

Sit-n-Go tournaments use a separate rating system from Ladder and Challenge modes. Your SNG rating reflects your performance specifically in 4-player mini-tournaments and is visible on dedicated leaderboards.

📊 How SNG Rating Works

  • Win-Based Progression: Your position on the SNG leaderboard is determined by winning Sit-n-Gos. The more SNGs you win, the higher you climb on the rankings.
  • Global Rating Impact: Winning an SNG also affects your global rating(shared across all modes) with a lighter K-factor adjustment compared to Ladder matches.
  • Placement Matters: Finishing 1st (champion) gives the most rating boost. Finishing 2nd (finalist) gives a smaller boost. Losing in semifinals typically results in a small rating adjustment.
  • Rating Updates After Finals: All four players' global ratings are recalculated once the final match is reported and a winner is confirmed.
  • Leaderboard Focus: The SNG leaderboard primarily ranks by total wins, not just rating—consistent performance is key!

Rules & Restrictions

⚖️ Important Rules

  • Multiple SNGs Allowed: You can join and play in multiple SNGs concurrently. There's no restriction on how many active SNGs you can participate in at the same time.
  • No Leaving After Start: Once the 4th player joins and the tournament begins, you cannot leave or get a refund. Ensure you have time to complete matches.
  • Report Losses Promptly: Losers must report results with replay URLs. Failure to report delays the tournament and may result in admin intervention.
  • No-Show Policy: If you don't respond to your opponent or coordinate a match within a reasonable timeframe, admins may issue a default loss. Entry fees are not refunded.
  • Deck Locked After Start: You must use the deck you registered with for all matches. Changing decks mid-tournament is not allowed.

Fair Play: SNGs rely on player integrity. Report results honestly, communicate respectfully with opponents, and contact admins if issues arise. Repeated rule violations may result in suspensions or bans.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do I wait for 4 players?

Wait times vary based on player activity. During peak hours, SNGs fill quickly (5-15 minutes). During off-hours, it may take longer. Check Discord to see how many players are currently in queue. You can leave and rejoin later if the wait is too long (before tournament starts).

Can I leave after joining?

Yes, but only before the tournament starts. If the status is still OPEN (waiting for players), you can use /sng leave to exit and get your 500 GWCoins refunded. Once STARTED, you cannot leave.

What if someone doesn't show up?

Contact an admin in the SNG Discord thread with evidence (DMs, timestamps). Admins can issue a default loss to the no-show player, allowing the bracket to continue. No-show players do NOT receive refunds and may face penalties for repeated offenses.

How is the bracket seeded?

Participants are randomly shuffled when the tournament starts. There's no seeding based on rating or previous performance—every SNG has a fair, random bracket to ensure variety and prevent gaming the system.

What happens to my GWCoins if I win?

The champion receives 1,500 GWCoins automatically credited to their account once the final is reported. This is a net profit of +1,000 GWCoins (3x return on your 500 GWC entry). Finalists and semifinal losers do not receive GWCoins, but they do earn rating adjustments.

Can I update my deck after joining?

Yes, while the tournament is OPEN. Run /sng join again with a new YDKE deck code. Your slot stays reserved, and the new deck replaces your previous registration. Once the tournament starts (STARTED), your deck is locked.

How do I earn GWCoins to enter SNGs?

You can earn GWCoins by playing Ladder matches, completing daily challenges, participating in events, or purchasing them through the shop. See the Earning GWC wiki page for full details on GWCoins sources.
